Emergency plumber, Northern Beaches

Burst pipe, water through the ceiling or sewage coming up? Turn the water off, then call.

Turn off the water at the meter first. Then call a licensed plumber.

Ask for the call-out fee and price before work starts. Asking is free.

Is it an emergency?

Tick what's happening. Some jobs can't wait. Others are cheaper to fix in business hours, because nights and weekends cost more.

Tick what's happening

We'll tell you whether to call now or book a time in business hours.

Where's the water meter?

Turning the water off is the one thing that stops the damage getting worse. Where to look depends on your home.

Near the front boundary

Look along the front fence or the footpath for a small plastic or metal lid. Sometimes it's beside the driveway or in the front garden bed.

  1. Lift the lid and clear any dirt or leaves.
  2. Turn the tap clockwise until it stops.
  3. Turn on a tap inside to check the water has stopped.

Keep water away from power

If water is near power points, lights or the switchboard, switch off the main power at the switchboard. If you can't reach it safely, stay out of the room and tell the plumber when they call.

For a burst pipe, a bucket and towels are fine while you wait. Don't try to patch a pressurised pipe yourself.

Water is stopped but you're unsure what's next? Send a request and a licensed plumber can talk it through.

Emergency questions

Do emergency plumbers cost more?

Usually, yes. Nights, weekends and public holidays are charged at a higher rate than business hours. Ask for their rate on the phone before they come, so you can decide.

Can I fix a burst pipe myself?

Turn the water off at the meter and catch what you can. That stops the damage. The repair itself needs a licensed plumber in NSW, and a quick patch on a pipe under pressure can fail.

Who pays if a pipe bursts in a unit?

It depends where the pipe is. Pipes in shared walls and floors are usually common property. See who fixes what in a unit, then check your strata by-laws.

Will my insurance cover it?

Some home and contents policies cover water damage from a sudden burst but not fixing a worn-out pipe. Check your policy, and take photos before you clean up.
